The appearance and strength of our nails have long been considered an indication of how healthy we are. However, there are times when our nails are not quite as strong as we would like. The good news is that simply making a few everyday changes to our lifestyle and habits, our nails can soon be stronger than ever before.
Below are a few tips that will have your nails stronger and better looking in no time.
Using A Supplement
Also known in the medical world as vitamin H and vitaminB-7, Biotin falls in the series of B vitamins. Because the supplement is water-soluble, it is not stored long term in the body. For this reason, the supplement needs to be taken each day to have the desired effect. Biotin doesn't only work to strengthen nailsbut will also strengthen hair.
Water Exposure
When your nails are physically exposed to excessive amounts of water, such as when soaked, they will quickly become brittle and weak. When washing the dishes, wearing gloves is a good option. Also, when bathing, try to minimize the amount of time your hands are in the water.
Hydration, Hydration, Hydration
Adequate water intake is essential for our overall health, including nail health. If nails do not receive sufficient moisture, such as drinking water daily, they will soon begin to peel, become brittle, and eventually break. Our nails can retain the moisture they need to stay healthy and strong by drinking plenty of water.
Diet Is Important
Ensure that your daily diet is varied and healthy, and supplement with a multivitamin containing minerals. When our diet lacks vital minerals and vitamins, your body will be affected overall—this includes your nails.
Product Selectivity
Many of the treatments and polishes for nails on the market today are prone to contain various harsh chemicals that can cause your nails toweaken. For example, polish removers contain the chemical acetone which should be avoided as it will damage nails. Try taking advantage of nail polishes thatare nontoxic such as acetone-free.
Avoid Using False Nails
Although artificial nails and gel nails are touted as an alternative for those who find it challenging to grow their natural nails, there are a few drawbacks. One is thatif used frequently, they will cause your nails to peel due to the weakening effect. Try and minimize the use of these types of products.
Keep Nails Short
When allowing your nails to grow long, there is the possibility that they will become caught and broken. Shorter nails, on the other hand, are less likely to get caught, causing them to become chipped, split, and cracked. Shorter nails have a better opportunity to remain stronger.
Minimize Use Of Nails
When using your fingers, try not to use your nails but rather the pads of your fingers—such as flipping open the top of a soda can. Using your nails as a make shift tool will only lead to you chipping and breaking them, which will also weaken them.
Put Lotion On Your Nails
After removing your nail polish, or if you think you may be dehydrated, moisturize your nails. Each time you remove your polish or wash your hands, the use of hand cream will go along way to your overall nail health.
Avoid Products That Dry
In this day and age, hand sanitizer is used by many. When using a sanitizer, try to minimize the amount you get on your nails and not over do it. When hand sanitizer is applied constantly, itcan become disastrous for nails due to the drying them out.
File Correctly
Ensure that you file your nails in one direction, not in aback and forth motion. When you file back and forth rather than in one direction, you may aid in weakening your nails. Make sure to take it easy on the side of the nail, as you can quickly weaken the nail there as well.
